Charité University – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe’s largest university hospitals and a leading global institution for medical research and education, is located in Berlin, the capital of Germany. Founded in 1710 as an infectious disease hospital to combat the plague, it was named “Charité” (French for “charity”) by King Frederick William I of Prussia in 1727. After centuries of development, it was integrated in 2003 into a comprehensive medical university affiliated with Humboldt University of Berlin and the Free University of Berlin. In 2024, its revenue exceeded €2 billion for the first time. It is also one of Berlin’s largest employers, with 24,000 employees from 113 countries, fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment.
